i have a dirt devil that may need a belt replacement…what is it and what does it do? what may happen if i don’t replace it?

the belt turns the brushes under the bottom with out it your vacume is usless on carpet.

Usually the belt drives the rotating brush head that assists in collecting the dirt on the bottom of the vacuum. Turn you vacuum over to expose the underside. Usually 4 or 5 screws will remove a plate that will expose the belt. There’s a good chance the belt has slipped off it’s pulley and all you have to do is put it back on.
You should be able to find a manual online. Using your make/model… do a search for an owners/repair manual online. That might help as well.

The belt drives the belt on the vacuum which helps a lot on picking up the dust and dirt. It also makes it easier to use the vacuum because the belt also drives the little wheels on the brush, Withut those little wheels, it would be hard work pushing the cleaner.
it allows the brush to rotate if needed for certain carpets….otherwise its just a vacuum of air
